ABOUT THE NEWS SECTION
Some explanations about the automatic news section.

You can now browse recent & worldwide carnivore news on a portfolio of automatically and permanently updated webpages. Please note these pages may sometimes be quite long to load (mean time 20 secs. but up to 60 sec.). This is normal as explained below. On the news home page, you access a list of the most recent news, but you can also browse more news on taxon specific pages, that include older news.

How does this work? These pages are based on really huge scripts, that permanently crawl the web for news on carnivores, filter them, merge them, check their pertinence, re-filter them to avoid duplicates, sort them by dates and finally display them on the webpage. All that fully automatized with no human input (meaning also that if the technology I use is discontinued these pages will be dropped). The scripts are so big & complex that they sometimes take too long to reply, and in this case, a delay error message is shown. There is nothing I can do about that, so if you encounter such message please wait some time, and try again.

Because they are computer generated and are not ranked according to their conservation interest, news are not focused and numerous (sometimes > 25 per day). You need to check these pages often, since some news are detected just during a few hours.

Due to a higher density of newspaper websites in North America, news are also likely to be more biased toward this region of the world. However, the scripts have been designed to cover news in other languages (e.g. French, Spanish, Italian, German and Russian).

Since there is no human input on these pages, it is therefore very possible that completely unrelated news show up here, despite I have tried to program the scripts in a very conservative way. For example, if two hockey teams, the Red Cougars and the Fast Grizzlies, are playing a game at the Otter Stadium, with one excellent player being John Wolf, the news will be blocked. But if this John Wolf becomes a champion and decides to make a donation to a wolf conservation NGO (lucky guys...), it will be blocked as well!

I cannot easily remove (or add) a single news and will discover every day like you what is published on my website! However, if you notice too many unrelated news, or with obscene content (e.g. PCs are better than Macs), please email me.
